How to increase metabolism for weight loss


The best way to stay fit and healthy is to keep boosted our metabolic rate. Our advancing age, sedentary life style, genes many factors can be responsible for slow metabolic rate which leads to obesity. Certain life style modifications can definitely help us in boosting our metabolism. Some of them are:

  1. Make breakfast an essential habit
    Eating a healthy breakfast is very essential for good health.  Ever wondered that when we fast , our body starts becoming inactive and lethargic. It is simply because our body is try to preserve calories and hence slows down our metabolism.Breakfast gives positive signals to our body to boost our metabolism and increase our calorie expenditure.
  2. 5 small meals a day: a perfect practice
    Develop a habit of eating 5 small portioned meals at  regular intervals. Believe us it will do wonders to your body by keeping it active and keeping up  your metabolism high. It is in fact one of the best way to loose weight.  Remember skipping meals will actually slow down your metabolism.
  3. High protein, low fat diet
    Try planning your plate as 25% protein, 25% carbohydrates, and 50% fruit and vegetables.  Enjoy lean sources of protein as well as legumes. As our body advances, it has a tendency to gain weight so a low fat diet is always advisable. Moreover, a high protein diet takes time to get digested and thus reduces our appetite.
  4. Exercise – the best way to jump start your metabolism
    Start small, make it fun.  Walking, swimming or cycling can be the best way to speed up your metabolism.  Have errands?  Go by foot.  Make it an outing, explore an area in your city, go to the market, the museum, take in some sites, go with friends.
  5. Water, Water, Water
    Consume a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day.  Water helps all the processes in our body and will help keep your metabolism roaring.
  6. Avoid eating late in night
    As the day progresses our metabolism slows down so it is important to avoid late night eating. It will only lead to fat accumulation. We must learn to keep our evening meal light and stop eating 3 hours before bed.
  7. Get Sufficient Sleep
    A  good 8 hours of Sleep is essential to restore and revitalize our body.  Lack of sleep has been shown to cause overeating and weight gain and it also slows down our metabolism. If there is trouble sleeping, try a new routine and avoid keeping the television on at bedtime.
